I have finished Nick Hornby’s novel “Slam” and loved it. I am a fan of his work anyway and find it hard to decide which one of his novels is my favourite. It might be “A long way down” about a group of four strangers who find themselves on a roof contemplating suicide and the unlikely friendships they develop. Thinking of it I should put that on my to re-read list. Anyway what I love about his books is the way he captures the voices of his characters so well and he his references to popular culture. “Slam” is the story of 16-year old Sam who faces the prospect of fatherhood and how he deals with it. It’s written from the boy’s point of view and when I read it I could clearly hear his voice. I could imagine that it could be easily made into a film. I don’t want to give too much away of the story away and recommend that you read it yourself.
I am almost finished with “The Complete Cat” and have to decide what to read next. My guess is it won’t be fiction this time though.

Well done Helen. I've almost finished Suite Francaise and Catch 22 this week. I'm not mad on either of them though.
