I finally finished reading Vicky Halls’ “The Complete Cat”. You can read my review here:
Vicky Halls, for those who haven’t heard of her yet, is Britain’s leading cat counsellor and The Complete Cat is her fourth book. I have reviewed her past three books, which focus on cat behavioural problems and had the pleasure of interviewing her for “Geliebte Katze”. The advice she offers in her books is invaluable for cat owners and I can highly recommend them, because they help you find solutions to behaviour problems and show you a cat friendly way to keep them happy and healthy. Her books certainly helped us when we faced the difficult decision of giving up Harry we initially adopted with Bobby.
If you have read one of my earlier posts about Bobby then you already know the story of her and Harry. We initially had two cats, as both seem to get on well and often slept next to each other and kept each other company – but that was mainly in their fosterer’s home, which they shared with other cats and kittens. Unfortunately Harry, who was much older, bullied Bobby, who urinated on the carpet, because she was too intimidated to use the litter tray. After two weeks we were all so stressed out that I made the decision to give him back to his fosterer, who was delighted to have him back. I found it hard to give him back as in those weeks I grew fond of him. But it was the right decision to make at the time, because his behaviour got worse and worse. I was also worried that he would easily escape and get run over.
Vicky is currently working on a television series about cats and I am looking forward to watching it.
My book challenge is still on – though I admit I’ve slowed down a bit and won’t be able to keep up with reading 1-2 books per week for a while, because the current book I am reading, William Critchley “The Pocket Book of Proofreading – A guide to freelance proofreading & copy-editing”, is a practical book which requires me to do the exercises. I might go on a proper proofreading course after I’ve finished the book.
