I had another driving lesson after a four-week break, which meant I was super nervous and made stupid little mistakes – I know I shouldn’t have left it for so long. I stalled three times and managed to go into 5th instead of 3rd gear several times. I should practise outside my lessons but rather keep good relationships with hubby and my mother-in-law who kindly offers to drive with me on a regular basis (and I keep saying “no thank you for your offer”). I still find it hard to process all the different tasks required to operate a car. I hope I improve soon andfare better in tomorrow’s lesson.

According to research (one place I know it is cited is Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers book) it takes 10,000 repetitions to make a conscious action into an “automatic” response. This is why athletes train, musicians practice and students read all they can about their subject.
Don't be too hard on yourself – you are just not up to ten thousand hours of driving yet!

I feel your pain!! I fall apart during driving lessons!! When the hour lesson is finished I start breathing again, not even having noticed that I had stopped!!
