Sorry for not posting for a while – I have been ill since Sunday. But at least I managed to make sure to get some extra bandwidth last week. Next month my blog and website is moving and I hope things will run smoothly.
This Sunday I celebrated (belatedly) my birthday with a few friends and for the first time we had a dog in the house. Nothing unusual you might think, but when you live with a cat, you get a tad nervy. Our friends didn’t want to leave him at home or in the car as it was quite hot and he seemed to have injured his foot and was a bit poorly. Taffy is a lovely dog – a mongrel – a bit of a Terrier mix. And terriers can be quite fierce. After everyone sat down outside to eat cake, Taffy made himself comfortable under the table. When Bobby entered the garden she was wasn’t sure what to make of him first and he didn’t seem to be too bothered about her. Bobby was weary and careful and for most of the day she stayed out of his range. Which was a wise idea. Bobby is not always as careful and sometimes even too trusting with dogs. And this is why I tend to pick her up when we meet one of our neighbours who has an old retired Greyhound.
The whole day went without any big incidents, Bobby was cute as ever and friendly and well behaved and enjoyed the sunshine, so much so that we put her mini Ikea tent out. I always worry about her ears, as they are half white. I’ve seen a lot of white cats with amputated ears, which is not only a bad look but means also the poor cats lose one of their most important communication tools. A cat’s ear has 9 muscles and it’s always easy to figure out what mood your cat is in just by watching its ears. Bobby tends to seek out the shade, which is sensible, especially since we tried sun lotion on her, which was formulated for cats. After using that once she reacted so badly to it that we had to get to the emergency vet, where she stayed the whole day for observation. The bottle went in the bin and if we try sun lotion again I am inclined to use sun lotion for children, which is not a spray – she hates the sound of spray.
