On our disppointing holiday in Italy (see next post about that one!) I read Jane Moore’s ”The Second Wives Club” which came free with Red magazine. It was entertaining enough to get through it fairly quickly and the story is about 4 women, all second wives, who have to deal with the first wives of their often pretty horrible and frankly wet men. These first wives still run the show and make the second wives’ lives miserable. The club is their refuge where they moan and whinge and support each other. The ending is fairly predictable but satisfying, as two of the women leave their awful husbands.
The second book I’ve started on our holiday (and am still reading) is the Man Booker Prize 2008 winner Aravand Adiga’s “The White Tiger” which is written from the point of view of an Indian entrepeneur who escaped poverty in the village he came from, committed a murder and is writing his life story to the Chinese Premier minister. It gives a fascinating and shocking insight into the Indian society (its caste system, poverty, corruption, healthcare etc.) and culture. I very much enjoy it and should have finished this by the end of the week. I am still also reading a book on weight loss and hypnotherapy. I have to check what’s next on my shelf and dip back into Jane Wenham-Jones’ “Wannabe a writer” to read up on how to find and contact agents.
